Disaster Relief

The island is in an extreme state of emergency which has turned the country into a socio-economic disaster zone. A lack of liquidity, a significant decline in tourism and reduced remittances from family members living abroad have contributed to this deterioration. It is becoming increasingly difficult to combat suffering and hunger.

In the fall of 2023, another strong hurricane hit the western part of the country, causing severe flooding and structural damage to hundreds of homes. SwissRelief stepped into the breach to help those who did not receive assistance from the authorities.
