Tunisia

Help for Self-Help

For a long time, Tunisia was looked upon as an exemplary exception in North Africa. A country in which the fall of the dictator allegedly led to a promising form of democracy. Recently, however, Tunisia seems to be going backwards again. When the incumbent president bluntly called for racism against people from the south, SwissRelief's partner suddenly had to be more careful when helping migrants from the south.

In the current economic situation, the start-up aid for micro-businesses is extremely effective: With relatively little effort, affected people are given a way out of unemployment and poverty. For example, financing a driving test can already help someone work independently as a taxi driver.
